I can't..., that's not me, I'm not the sort of person who can..., I never have..., I couldn't...
These are some limiting beliefs we tell ourselves.
But limiting beliefs are not you.
It’s just stuff that got passed onto you from other people.
It’s not you.
So the next time you hear yourself say – I’m not good at that, or I never… or I have to… ask yourself where did that come from?
Is it really true?
And if your evidence is ‘once when I was 12 I tried that and failed’. Well you are now 35 (for example) don’t you think you’d have picked up a few more skills since then?
But the fear of failure has often made us stop and never try that thing ever again.
How many times does a baby try to walk before succeeding? hundreds!
But as adults we may try something once or twice before giving up, we have learnt failure.
When you think about fear – what is it really? How does it manifest itself?
A sense of discomfort?
Is that what it is? Just discomfort?
It’s not going to kill us.
So why are we so fearful of that feeling?
It’s just a fear – a feeling.
You don’t need that baggage, it just gets in the way.
Noticing these processing you are running is the first step, learning how to remove them / disrupt them is the next step. And you CAN learn that.
