Do you ever ask yourself ‘’Why did they do that?”, or “Why did they do it that way?''
“I wouldn’t do that’’, or ‘’I’d never do it like that’’
Of course you do, we all do.
It is human nature to project our expectations onto the world.
But we can’t assume that people want to follow our rules or that they even know them.
We can’t win if we reference everything to ourselves.
Applying our rules and approach to others can be a major source of angst and frustration – leading to anxiety and disempowerment.
A decent person generally runs a bit of over-responsibility.
BUT
The world is not fair - unless we accept that, we will struggle.
The world is not going to change for us – we need to change.
So the next time you find yourself thinking or saying – ‘’Why did they do that?’’
Why not ask yourself – ‘’How is this a problem for ME?’’
And then ‘’how SPECIFICIALLY is this a problem for me?” – often this is how it affects us personally.
And then “How does it make me FEEL?" – angry? sad?
Ask yourself ‘’Why does it make me feel that way?’’ - out of control? powerless?
Notice it all comes back to ourself.
In the end we have very little control over anything apart from our own reactions and responses.
So now when you notice yourself running these thoughts, which potentially lead to us feeling frustrated or anxious, could you perhaps chose to stop?
